Candidate Foregoes Financial Contribution
Complete Press Release From SLO Deputy Sheriffs’ Association
Dated May 2, 2010:
"The San Luis Obispo County Deputy Sheriffs' Association (DSA) is pleased to announce the endorsement of San Luis Obispo Police Captain Ian Parkinson for the office of Sheriff-Coroner.
"The DSA recently submitted the names of all Sheriff candidates to the 155 members of our organization for consideration and endorsement. Captain Parkinson overwhelmingly prevailed by popular vote and won the DSA's endorsement for election to the office of Sheriff-Coroner.
"The DSA membership determined that Ian Parkinson has the vision and ability to affect positive change within the Sheriff's Department and is the best candidate to guide our department into the future.
"The DSA traditionally supports a candidate's endorsement with a financial contribution and had planned to make such a contribution in this case. After learning of our endorsement, Ian asked to meet with the DSA leadership. The result of that meeting was that Ian and the DSA agreed to forego the usual political campaign contribution that normally accompanies the DSA endorsement. Instead, the DSA will be continuing with our community outreach that contributes to a positive impact in the lives of those that benefit from the many nonprofit organizations that the DSA contributes to each year.
"The DSA stands strongly behind Ian Parkinson. We believe the residents of San Luis Obispo County will agree that Ian is the only candidate for Sheriff who has the experience and leadership to implement necessary change and assure a positive future for the Sheriff’s Department for many years to come."
Prison Guards At California Men’s Colony Latest Law Enforcement Endorsement for Parkinson
San Luis Obispo, CA – The California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) which represent 1,050 employees at the California Men’s Colony have endorsed Ian Parkinson in his bid to become the next Sheriff of San Luis Obispo County. CCPOA is the largest union of correctional officers in the state of California, with roughly 35,000 members statewide.
CCPOA conducted extensive research and rigorous oral interviews of each candidate running for Sheriff before concluding that Parkinson was the top candidate. The endorsement was communicated to Parkinson in a letter from Patrick Campbell, the Chair of the California Men’s Colony Chapter of CCPOA, in which he cited the County’s urgent need for “strong and honest leadership.” “Having interacted with you on multiple levels,” Campbell wrote, “we fully believe that you possess all of the qualities and skills necessary to succeed as the next Sheriff of this County and lead this County into the future.” The County requires “a leader who will fight for the professionals who risk their lives every day. Ian, we believe you are that leader,” Campbell concluded.
“I am honored to have earned the confidence and the endorsement of CCPOA and its local members,” Parkinson responded after being told of the endorsement. “I take very seriously their trust in me as a leader and, as Sheriff, I will continue to earn that trust each and every day that I am in office.”

“…we believe Parkinson’s combination of law enforcement experience, coupled with his knowledge of issues facing the various communities, makes him best suited to lead the county’s largest law enforcement organization.”
